The Uddcomb Method is developed for refurbishment and long term corrosion protection of continuous digesters. The method is developed to offer a high quality solution in combination with minimum duration/downtime of the pulp digester. Automated weld overlay of Continous digesters is a typical application where the high production rates of the twin torched Uddcomb method can save several days on critical path/outage time. The Uddcomb Method have been used for long term refurbishments of corroded digesters for 30 years worldwide.
Automated weld overlay of top domes, cylindrical shells, bottom domes, behind the screens is done worldwide
Extensive process-related corrosion of the continous digester shell. A long term refurbishment solution for the digester will be require to restore and protect it from further corrosion.
The automated double torched Uddcomb Method added a 3mm stainless steel surface on top of the corroded pressure retaining carbon steel surface. The stainless steel layer have similar corrosion protection properties as a brand new digester in duplex stainless steel.
The customer extended the life of the current pulp digester with 40-50 years without having to replace digester sections, parts or the complete digester. No investments in new equipment was required. The project was executed during the annual maintenance shutdown. No additional loss of production was related to the project.
